This Privacy Policy describes how realestatemaps.app ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use realestatemaps.app and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. What We Collect

Account Information (Clerk)

When you register or sign in, Clerk processes authentication on our behalf. We receive and store account-related information such as your name, email address, and profile photo (if you provide one through your identity provider or Clerk profile).

Billing Information (Stripe)

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your payment method details (e.g., card information). We receive limited billing metadata such as subscription status, plan type, and transaction identifiers—we do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.

Usage Data

We collect information about how you use the Service, including map interactions, features enabled, viewport positions, layer preferences, and saved map configurations. This helps us deliver the Service, persist your workspace, and improve product quality.

Map Annotations & Saved Content

Content you create in the Service—such as POI callouts, measurements, annotations, and saved views—is stored server-side and associated with your account. You retain ownership of your user-generated content; we process it to provide and backup the Service.

Device & Error Information (Sentry)

We use Sentry for error monitoring. Sentry may receive device and browser information, anonymized stack traces, and diagnostic context when errors occur. This data helps us identify and fix reliability issues.

2. What We Don't Collect

• Parcel and property lookups: We do not collect personal information about property owners or occupants from parcel or property data layers. Parcel data displayed in the Service comes from aggregated public records and is not used to build profiles of individuals.
• Sale of personal data: We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. How We Use Data

We use collected information to:

• Provide, authenticate, and secure access to the Service
• Process subscriptions and billing through Stripe
• Save your maps, annotations, and workspace preferences
• Monitor performance, diagnose errors, and improve features
• Communicate with you about your account, security, or material policy changes
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

We process data based on contractual necessity (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security and improvement), and consent where required by law.

We rely on trusted processors that handle data under their own privacy policies:

Mapbox GL JS may also be used for map rendering when selected; Mapbox's privacy policy applies to that provider when in use.

5. Data Retention

We retain account data, saved maps, and annotations while your account remains active. If you close your account or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain information for legal, tax, billing dispute, or security purposes.

6. User Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at legal@realestatemaps.app. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe as required by applicable law.

7. Cookie & Local Storage Use

• Session cookies: Clerk and our authentication flow use session cookies to keep you signed in securely.
• Local storage: The Service may store map state, UI preferences, and viewport settings in your browser's local storage for persistence across sessions on your device.
• Do Not Track: We do not respond to browser Do Not Track (DNT) signals at this time. Third-party processors may have their own DNT policies.

You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may limit sign-in and certain features.

8. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data we process, including encryption in transit, access controls, and third-party security practices from our processors. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8a. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users within 72 hours of discovery, as required by applicable law, and will provide information about the nature of the breach and steps we are taking to address it.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact legal@realestatemaps.app if you believe we have collected such information.

11. California Residents — Your Rights Under CCPA/CPRA

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grant you the following rights:

• Right to Know: You may request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the business purpose for collection, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
• Right to Delete: You may request deletion of personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions (e.g., completing a transaction, detecting security incidents, complying with legal obligations).
• Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
• Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. No opt-out action is required.
• Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: We do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the Service.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

realestatemaps.app does not sell or share personal information, and has not sold or shared personal information in the preceding 12 months, as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not use cookies or trackers for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties in exchange for money or other valuable consideration.
